March 9th Update

Portfolios

Portfolios were sent home with students today. Please review assessments for science and math, and return to school on Monday, March 19th.

Science

We had an exciting end to our science units. The Grade Two students conducted their own experiments in class, and the Grade Three students created some awesome structures! Here are a couple of pictures that capture this learning:

When we return from March Break we will switch back to social studies. Our new topics will be:

Grade 2: Global Communities
Grade 3: Living and Working in Ontario

Literacy

In Literacy, we will shift our focus away from procedural and paragraph writing to non-fiction reading and writing. We will begin by exploring the different features of non-fiction texts. Students will have an opportunity to explore a topic that they are interested in through research. They will learn how to create jot-notes based on main ideas presented in non-fiction texts. We will then work towards publishing our own non-fiction texts.

Math

We will continue to explore fractions before moving into learning about telling time, and adding and subtracting money.

Food Drive

Our school is holding a food drive after March Break. Please send in any non-perishable items. Thank you!

March Break Ideas:

  • Get outside! Take a nature walk- there are many trails and conservation areas around this area to explore! More information can be found Here
  • Visit the Aurora Public Library ( consider borrowing some non-fiction books!)
  • Do some cooking or baking and make connections to our learning in mass and capacity and fractions
  • Write (keep a daily journal) and share it with me after the break!
